Something Different
Something Different
Music is constantly around us all the time. We use music to express ourselves in a variety of ways. Music can show us our moods and even depict our life story for anyone paying attention. However, nothing compares to the first time hearing a song you'll be listening to for the rest of your life. Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig In The Sky" sends goosebumps down my spine every time I hear it. “The Great Gig in the Sky” is the fifth track on The Dark Side of the Moon, the 1973 album by the English rock band Pink Floyd. It features vocals by Clare Torry.
Clare Torry sounds like a violent angel. On the track, she starts off with a violent radical tone in her voice almost as if she's been hurt by something. You can feel the pain in her voice with every high note she hits. She has the ability to lock you in her trance. Transcending into a melodic tone as if she's on the come down from her peak and she's accepting her fate with her place in the universe. In reality, this song is based on the morality of life.
Clare Torry's vocals for me are a timeline of one's life. Taking us on a psychedelic adventure through time and space. She can't sing forever, humans can't live forever. But, the way to counteract the morbid inevitability is to find the beauty within every note, memory, person, and interaction leaving behind a legacy for others to be inspired. No matter how life is treating to you there's always a brighter side. I encourage you all to give it a listen.
